We would like to take a couple days and go to MI this winter, for a first time experience. The place would not have to be fancy just nice and family oriented.

Boyne is your best bet. They have 2 different hills, the mountain and the highlands and many different types of housing whether your want to rent a house or just a hotel room. They have a snow tubing park too, and they have an indoor water park.

I’m going skiing and tubing for the first time and I want to make sure that I have everything I need. I’m referring to stuff that I could not rent like jackets, pants, etc. Thanks

Actually you can now rent jackets and pants at most resorts, but they are usually unpleasant.

Just get a decent jacket, pants, gloves, either a hat or helmet, or goggles, warm socks (not too thick), and lots of sunblock. I’d just rent everything else.

Edge control – how and where and which edge to “dig in” to the snow, and weighting – how much weight to put on which ski when.

That pretty much describes all ski lessons. Your instructor will have a series of drills and tips to help your progression.

And don’t fuss – everyone else in the lesson will also be a beginner, so there is no reason to fear that you will stand out.

Question by lawsonmy: I have had two ACL reconstructions on my knee many years ago. Can I try down hill snow skiing?
Of course, I plan on taking a ski lesson or two, but just want to understand if this is absolutely not an option for me with my knee surgeries and past issues.

Not just yes, but hi)) yes. The doctor you employ must give an OK. Which if they are also skiers is easier. Take multiple lessons and enjoy the teaching situation. Knee surgery alone is not a condition to cause you to never again status.

It would be easier to answer if you mentioned where you lived. Generally any ski area has a couple ski shops nearby (resort areas of course usually have quite a few) and probably any good size city within reasonable driving distance of ski areas (for example, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver) will have ski shops. LL Bean has winter clothes in their catalogue.

I’m taking ski lessons for the first time and bought a pair of snow pants that I can easily manuever around in. However, I was told not to wear jeans underneath them. I have long-johns, but I doubt that’ll be enough.

We live in Houston, TX and we will drive from here. stay in hotels w/ points but we have about 9 kids and 8 adults. My concerns are the ski lifts and the rental costs! can someone please let me know what to look for.

I think the largest ski area nearest Houston is Ski Apache in Ruidoso, NM. That’s a heck of a drive though. From what a couple of my friends from NM tell me, its quite reasonably priced.
