Question by Harpomyminischnauzer: Who has torn their ACL their first time snow skiing and have snow skiied since then?
I tore my ACL within the first two hours of my first snow skiing experience. Now I am scared to try it again (with some professional help of course) but I want to know if there is anyone out there with the same experience and how was snow skiing with a bum knee (after surgery). [I had surgery about a year ago]
Thanks for the snowboarding idea, I have thought about that too. I have been really good about rehab and keeping it strong. Where do you get this brace you are talking about and what is it exactly? I have a brace from surgery but that would not be fun to be active in. Thanks!

I haven’t but my best friend has. He had surgery and tried to ski again the next season. He seemed to have a little discomfort, but he also didn’t do all of his PT. How you well feel is mainly determined by how well you have rehabbed. If you did all of your exercises and keep your leg strong you shouldn’t have any problems. I have another friend who tore his ACL skiing early in the season, and was back on skis by the end of the season. I also knew one old ex-Marine who skied without and ACL for about 5 years. He did a lot of strength exercises and kept his legs very strong though.

Don’t worry, with a little professional assistance you’ll be fine. As you can tell I’ve had many friends tear their ACLs. They’ve all gotten back on skis and they’re all fine.

Climbing helmets lack several useful features, such as:
* not designed to be used with goggles
* generally don´t cover the ears (for warmth)
* don´t cover the back of the head as fully
* no adjustable ventilation

A climbing helmet is designed to protect you from falling pebbles… not the kind of thing you wear a helmet for on the slopes.

My sister and I board but my parents ski.
Every year, we go somewhere hot for New Years and it costs us about 15 grand.
This year, we decided to go skiing somewhere.
Where is the best skiing / boarding in the world.
Moneys not really an issue ..

Well I’m no ski/snowboard freak but I have some experience and know that Colorado or Utah is good and I know of Madonna di Campiglio only because of the MotoGP Ducati team that I follow but it looks pretty good to me and I would want to go there. Here’s a link for Madonna:

Going skydiving in a few days and i was curious as to what to expect. Im sure nothing will go wrong but what are the chances of something happeing like my chute not opeing or my chute getting tangled. I like my risks to be calculated

Math shouldn’t be an issue if you made it past grade 6. As for tables, I believe they let you use an ERDP now on the exam ( I’m not in favor of that, but I don’t make the rules).
Most of the questions on the exam are common sense or included in your manual, so there should be no issue there either. If you read the manual, did the quizzes, you should pass the exam. If it’s the tables that are bogging you down, they actually require little math at all. If there’s math, it’s a multiple dive day and you’re simply using addition. Most of it is just taking known information to discover unknown information. If you’re unsure of the steps involved, that’s what you paid your Instructor for…ask him/her.

I want a place that is close to Orlando/Kissimi, I understand it gets better the further south i go, however, this is not an option. I am with my family and we have prearranged times to go places and I have only one day to go scuba diving and must be within around a 1-1 1/2 hour drive of the location. I have my advanced open water through PADI.

try taking a introduction to cavern diving with padi. i think the caves are close to orlando. would be more expensive but definatley worth it.
